Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners and Therapeutic Supports

Person-Centred, Neuro-Affirming Support for Positive Outcomes

In the case of Kalliopi Support Services, we recognise that people are all unique, requiring different things for themselves in terms of expression, communication, skills, and goals.

Our Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners and Therapeutic Supports are aimed at working in collaboration with participants, their families, carers, and support networks to generate practical and positive results.

Our approach is person-centred and neuro-affirming, where we aim to understand the person and not only the behaviour. We try to understand the factors that affect this individual’s experience and needs, as well as helping to establish strategies to ensure safety, wellness, communication, participation, and independence of the participant.

Foundational Methodology

What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an intervention approach which aims to understand why certain behaviours might happen and how to provide appropriate support for an individual.

Rather than attempting to suppress a behaviour, PBS tries to look at an individual as a whole.

The Goal of Positive Behaviour Support

The goal is to create positive interventions that would help participants lead more comfortable lives and engage in community activities with confidence. We investigate exploring his or her surroundings, communication needs, social relationships, routines, interests, abilities, and support needs.

Kalliopi Philosophy

"At Kalliopi Support Services, we consider behaviour to be a form of communication."

Holistic Support Factors

Our approach takes into consideration such factors as:

We try to create realistic, respectful and meaningful approaches for participants, maintaining the participant’s dignity and rights at all times.

Core Service

What Is Support Coordination?

The purpose of Support Coordination is to help participants of the NDIS understand how to make use of their plans and supports.

Kalliopi Support Services will assist you in making your NDIS experience easier to comprehend and manage. We can help you in finding appropriate services, coordinating various service providers, building support networks, and becoming more independent in the decision making process.

Our mission is not to make decisions for you. We will help you to understand your choices and options.

Collaborative Support Ecosystem

Working With Participants, Families and Support Networks

Success is often experienced when all the people around a participant work collaboratively. By fostering collaboration and communication between these people, we may foster consistency in their support approach.

Most importantly, we will keep the participant at the centre of the support process.

We work collaboratively with:

Participants

Families

Carers

Support Workers

Support Coordinators

Allied Health

And other relevant people from the participant’s support circle & community services.

Practical & Solution-Driven

We can assist in identifying the appropriate services, coordinating services, exploring accommodation solutions, and linking the individual with professionals who comprehend the complexity of the situation.

Transition from Incarceration

Being released into the community from incarceration comes with challenges such as housing, health care, employment, daily activities, socializing, and accessing services. We can assist individuals to prioritize and put together pathways for support.

Degenerative Conditions

Individuals suffering from degenerative illnesses could have varying physical, cognitive, emotional or psychosocial needs at different points in time. We can assist in the provision of relevant assistance and link up participants to allied health professionals and others who can meet the evolving needs.

Needs for Mental Health Support

We know that mental health problems can impact different facets of daily living such as relationships, housing, community engagement, activities and independence. Using Psychosocial Recovery Coaching and through our professional contacts, we can assist participants in developing ways to address their own issues and work towards achieving personal goals.

Neuro-Affirming Philosophy

Neuro-Affirming Approach to Support

Each person perceives the world differently. Neuro-affirming support accepts neurological differences as something that should not be fixed but should be understood and accepted instead.

Our aim is to develop the most effective support approaches for the participants in order to make them feel understood, respected, safe and empowered.

Find clear answers regarding our NDIS Support Coordination & Psychosocial Recovery Coaching.

What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support is an approach that focuses on understanding the reasons behind behaviour and developing practical, respectful strategies that support a person's wellbeing, participation, communication, and quality of life.

Is Positive Behaviour Support only for people with challenging behaviours?

No. Positive Behaviour Support can be used to understand a wide range of support needs. The focus is on understanding the individual, identifying what may be influencing their experiences, and developing strategies that support positive outcomes.

What does a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner do?

A Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner works with participants and their support networks to understand individual needs and develop appropriate strategies that can support wellbeing, safety, communication, participation, and quality of life.

What does neuro-affirming support mean?

A neuro-affirming approach recognises and respects neurological differences. Instead of focusing only on changing a person's behaviour or characteristics, it aims to understand their needs, strengths, communication preferences, and experiences.

Who can be involved in therapeutic support?

Depending on individual needs, support may involve the participant, family members, carers, support workers, Support Coordinators, allied health professionals, and other members of the person's support network.

What allied health professionals can you connect participants with?

Our professional network includes Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Counsellors, Social Workers, and Psychologists. The appropriate professional will depend on the participant's individual needs and goals.

Can therapeutic supports help with daily living skills?

Yes. Depending on the participant's needs, allied health professionals can support areas such as communication, functional skills, routines, social participation, environmental needs, and daily living activities.

Can you support participants with complex needs?

Yes. Kalliopi Support Services has experience working with participants with complex behavioural, psychosocial, neurological, mental health, housing, and community support needs.

Do you work with families and carers?
Yes. We believe collaboration with families, carers, and other members of a participant's support network can be important in creating consistent and effective support.
How do you make sure support is personalised?
We begin by understanding the participant's individual circumstances, preferences, strengths, communication style, challenges, and goals. Support is then coordinated around their specific needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
Can you help coordinate multiple therapeutic services?
Yes. Where appropriate, we can help participants connect with different allied health professionals and coordinate support around their broader goals.
How can I access Positive Behaviour Support or therapeutic services?

Contact Kalliopi Support Services to discuss your requirements. Our team can learn more about your circumstances and help you explore appropriate support options and professional services.
